The Executive Offices of the General Convention

Vice President, House of Deputies

At the 76th General Convention, meeting in Anaheim, California, in July, 2009, the House of Deputies elected Deputy Brian N. Prior its Vice President. On February 13, 2010, Mr. Prior was ordained ninth Bishop of Minnesota, and the office of Vice President of the House of deputies became vacant.

There is no canonical provision for filling a vacancy in the office of Vice President of the House of Deputies until the first day of the next General Convention.

Following the precedent set in 1993 when a vacancy in the office of Vice President occurred, President of the House of Deputies, Canon Bonnie Anderson, D.D., will nominate a clergy deputy, respected by the House, who has agreed to serve, if elected, for the 77th General Convention only, and not to run for any office to be elected by the House of Deputies at the 77th General Convention. This will enable the House to be served by a Vice President without compromising the election of the Vice President to be elected to serve during the succeeding triennium.
